Dianne Southey

New Zealand

Dianne has had a full and varied life immersed in patchwork & quilting since 1985, including owning a quilt shop for more than 36 years and teaching patchwork since 1988.

Pattern and colour play a big part in her choices, with piecing, machine applique and machine quilting featuring in most of her quilts. Dianne machine quilts all her own quilts believing “quilting makes the quilt”.

Fabric dyeing and discharge dyeing, painting and drawing on fabric, along with mixed media quilts are among favourite techniques. Dianne has created a series of 40 Strip Club patterns using 2.5” fabric strips which offer a variety of techniques and shortcuts as well as designing and creating many other quilt patterns and designs.

She encourages students to take the basic technique and create something unique to them, guiding them along the quilting journey.

Dianne was Convenor for Quilt Symposium 2007 and 2015 and has been a member of Rose City Quilters in Palmerston North since the early ‘80’s.
