Introduction: Life is a carousel and every turn and change can be celebrated, but, we can jump off the carousel to try something different. We all have life stories and collections of memories. This workshop caters for those from beginner to experienced.

In this workshop, we will make signatures from fabric (folded pages to make a book) on which to work. We will begin by reflecting on our memories and choosing a topic/event(s) for the book. Students will then stamp or stencil images on some of the pages, maybe add text, and add remnants/items and stitch to the pages.

The workshop will include a number of simple techniques for surface design; which could include using text, stencilling, stamping, rubbing, ink, oil stick, weaving, and stitching, using a template to create holes for binding, a simple book stitch binding. Students will be encouraged to work intuitively with fabric.

I encourage students to recycle, reuse, rethink, and some work would need to have been considered before the class. (eg thinking about an important event, an issue, a place, memory).
