Mary Jane is a self-taught textile artist and her background is predominantly in science and medicine. She creates realistic collaged textile works – specialising in nudes, people and portraits.
She is an artist member of the Otago Art Society, a member of Studio Art Quilt Associates, Gondwana Textile Artists, and Aotearoa Quilters.
She is particularly interested in the portrayal of the human form. She enjoys playing with colour, pattern and value and loves the challenge of constructing the human form in a monochromatic palette. She predominantly uses commercial cotton fabrics, batiks, and recycled clothing.
