Students with free motion quilting skills ranging from confident beginner to
advanced will learn to use quilted bridge elements and blend free motion designs to seamlessly transition between quilting motifs. Different skill levels will be accommodated through suggestions to simplify and elaborate on motifs, creating an individualized experience.

A series of units will be presented to classify types of quilted motifs, with a focus on personalization. One of these units will feature motifs inspired by the art, nature, and cultural history of New Zealand. Another unit will feature student submitted quilt images for a rapid-fire design session in which design concepts from class, like scale changes, creating movement, establishing theme, and even considering creating emotional impact with quilting will be illustrated via drawing on student submissions.
