Catherine comes from Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand and has been a textile artist for more than thirty years. She is into surface design and creating original fabrics for her works and for sale. Catherine has taught both surface design and specific projects both in New Zealand and Canada.
Her love of colour and fabric sees her create her own hand dyed and hand treated fabrics which she uses in her own work as well as selling. The possibilities are endless to create original work.
She is also an accountant and has been involved in Harness Racing and Thoroughbred Racing throughout her life. With this and three older brothers and two sons, she finds her textile work is of a masculine nature rather than pretty. She likes to convey a deeper meaning in her quilts and feels the stitching adds a crucial layer to the overall piece.
