Class Code: AESA05
A great pillow sham will enhance your quilt and complete your bed setting. It uses up scraps from your quilt and alleviates having to make the quilt big enough to cover the entire bed surface.
The pillow-sham is essentially a quilted pillow slip for a second, firm bed pillow, used in conjunction with your regular pillow. I use mine for sitting up in bed reading, but I then leave it on the floor and sleep with my regular pillow. You don’t wash the sham every time you change your sheets – just as required.
The pillow-sham design should complement the quilt, so bring along a photo of your quilt and we’ll brainstorm the best approach for your particular sham. Collect up scraps from the original quilt and any unused blocks, plus some fabric for the back – it could be the original backing fabric or anything that works with the overall design. The class makes a pieced front and a quilted, more simple back.
If you wish to make a pair of shams then bring enough fabric for both but the focus of the class is to fully complete one sham.
